Welcome Post

Welcome to ripplesoflife.net. This is a blog that I hope will help people take lessons from the Bible and apply them to everyday life.
Sometimes I feel we get so caught up and focused on learning Bible stories as kids or memorizing scripture but are never really able to see what God is trying to teach us through these words. My hope is to be able to help us work through those words and be able to see the little nuggets of knowledge that God has put there to help us through everyday life.
So why call it Ripples of Life? In my teaching at church I often (probably too often) use the example of a throwing a rock into a still pond to illustrate how our decisions in life affect the whole world whether we like it or not. The pond signifies the world while the rock we throw in is any decision/action we take in our lives. We like to think that our actions and decisions in life are our own and is nobody else’s business. But just like how the rock causes ripples all the way across the pond when it hits the water, our decisions can affect the world in a positive or negative way. Even on the other side of the pond, far away from where you threw the rock, the water is rippled. That is how our decisions can affect the world in a way we wouldn’t think possible. People are watching us. Kids imitate us. Our decisions and actions matter to others. Our decisions and actions affect ourselves and how we respond to other situations in the future. My hope is this blog can help us make better decisions based off the lessons that God teaches through scripture, music, and people in general.
For the most part, the things you will see me post on this blog will be kind of like a Bible study. I will, from time to time, use stories, songs, current events, etc. for discussion. I enjoy and encourage discussion. If there is something that I mention that is either not clear or maybe you disagree with, I encourage you to contact us and I would love to discuss. I do ask that we keep discussion polite and civilized. I know that sometimes we all get very passionate about our beliefs and that passion can get away from us and result in anger and resentment. That is not the purpose of this. So, in those times we will just have to agree to disagree and move forward. If there is something you are going through and you are seeking guidance, feel free to post it and I will attempt to help as best I can. I can at least be an ear to listen. If you have prayer requests they are welcome too. Just know that if you do ask for advice on a situation, it may take me a day or two to get back to you as I try not to give an answer without thought and prayer. Also know that what I say in response may not be what you want to hear. Sometimes love is tough. Don’t take it personally. It is most important to get it right rather than tickle your ears. So, without further delay, let’s get this journey started. Welcome!
P.S. Please ignore my grammar at times. I am a simple man from Mississippi. That should explain it.
