Day of Reflection

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.”       Ephesians 1:3

As I type this, it is December 31, 2018. It is a day that we need to reflect on the previous year. A day to look back and acknowledge the many ways that God has blessed us over the past 365 days. We often get caught up in the thoughts of new year’s resolutions. We worry about what is about to happen and what we hope to accomplish.

We all have different aspirations and goals. Some focus on personal health, while others focus on the financial side of things. Regardless of what we focus on, we typically are more worried about the future than thinking about the past.

We also tend to get bogged down in the so-called “negative” events in our lives when we think about the past. We so quickly forget all the blessings that God bestows on us each and every day. December 31 should be a day of praise each year, as we think about the good things that God has given us.

God is so good to us. Just to be allowed to breathe in another day is an incredible blessing from Him. Another day to experience His creation. Another day to love and be loved. Another day to feel the blessings of His grace and mercy.

You may be reading this at the end of what you would call the worst year of your life. However, if you are a child of His then you have all the reasons in the world to praise Him. Simply because you are His. You have a home with God waiting for you when He says your time on earth is done. We also have this promise in Romans chapter 8:

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”     Romans 8:28

So, before you get focused on the plans and/or goals that you have set for 2019, take a step back and reflect on how God blessed you in 2018. You might want to sit and write a list of each blessing, big or small, that you can think of. In the end, you may be surprised to realize that 2018 was a lot better than you initially thought. God Bless and I hope you have a Happy New Year.
