Flawless

One of my favorite music groups to listen to is MercyMe. I can still remember the first time I heard about them. I was at the home of my good friend, Rick Garrison. He told me that he had a cd that he wanted me to hear. It was a new group that he had first heard at a youth rally in Florida. The song he had me listen to was “I Can Only Imagine”. At the time, very few people had ever heard this song or of this group. It was their first cd. It was their first song. I fell in love with the song immediately just as so many others have. I continued to follow their career and their music ever since. There have been many hits from MercyMe down through the years but they seem to have really hit a different stride over the past couple of cd’s. More on them in a bit.

On January 22, 2019 news started to filter out that the state of New York has adopted a radical abortion law which would allow abortions to be performed right up to a baby’s due date. Meaning a full term baby can be aborted if the mother so chooses. Then to celebrate what they did, the governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, orders buildings in New York City (One World Trade Center) to be illuminated in pink lights. All of this happened on the anniversary of Roe vs Wade. The New York lawmakers referred to this decision as one that showed how progressive they were in their ideals. This is a lie from Satan himself. In fact, it is the same technique he has used to trip up mankind since the Garden of Eden. He told Eve that if she ate of the fruit, she would be like God. Satan wants man to think of himself higher than he should. He talks us into thinking that we are advanced in our thinking and reasoning. When in fact, we are living a lie.

It broke my heart. It is hard to wrap my brain around the idea that people have a desire to kill innocent babies. The United States, down through history, has always been the country that would run to the aide of those who could not protect or defend themselves. We were always there for the weak. Now we are only there for the convenient. We are only there for those that can help us financially now. In the name of what? Our so called “civil rights”? When did mankind assume the authority of God to decide who deserves to live? When did lawmakers decide that their laws were above the Ten Commandments? The feminists will say it is their body and their right. They say it is their right as a woman. What about the right of that little girl they want to abort?

The Bible is clear. Do not kill. God tells us that He knows us even while we are in our mother’s womb. The Bible refers to children as a heritage to the Lord. We are following the same path as so many other governments and societies down through history. We have become as barbaric as those in Bible days that worshipped pagan false gods by sacrificing their children. Some would say this is different. We are not sacrificing children to a god. I have to disagree. We are sacrificing these poor innocent children to the god of “pride”. We have become so self-centered and prideful to think that we have the power to make decisions that belong only to God. We think that we can decide what someone is worth. If someone doesn’t meet our criteria then we should be allowed to simply throw them away. I am so thankful that God didn’t choose to throw mankind away. He could have and would have been justified in doing so because we are severely flawed. But rather than killing us and wiping us out, He had mercy and compassion and provided a way for us to have eternal LIFE. Not death. He didn’t end us but rather gave us the opportunity for a new beginning. He sent His Son to die in our place. And as He was giving His life away, Jesus asked God to forgive us. The perfect example of unconditional love.

So how does this post tie back to MercyMe? Back in 2014 MercyMe came out with a cd titled “Welcome To The New”. On that cd is a song titled “Flawless”. I have included the lyrics for this song below:

Flawless

MercyMe

There’s got to be more
Than going back and forth
From doing right to doing wrong
‘Cause we were taught that’s who we are
Come on get in line right behind me
You along with everybody
Thinking there’s worth in what you do

Then like a hero who takes the stage when
We’re on the edge of our seats saying it’s too late
Well let me introduce you to amazing grace

No matter the bumps
No matter the bruises
No matter the scars
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless
No matter the hurt
Or how deep the wound is
No matter the pain
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless

Could it possibly be
That we simply can’t believe
That this unconditional
Kind of love would be enough
To take a filthy wretch like this
And wrap him up in righteousness
But that’s exactly what He did

No matter the bumps
No matter the bruises
No matter the scars
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless
No matter the hurt
Or how deep the wound is
No matter the pain
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless

Take a breath smile and say
Right here right now I’m ok
Because the cross was enough

And like a hero who takes the stage when
We’re on the edge of our seats saying it’s too late
Well let me introduce you to grace grace
God’s grace

No matter the bumps
No matter the bruises
No matter the scars
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless
No matter the hurt
Or how deep the wound is
No matter the pain
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless

No matter what they say
Or what you think you are
The day you called His name
He made you flawless
He made you flawless

No matter the bumps
No matter the bruises
No matter the scars
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless

I bolded my favorite lines of the song. No matter what people say or what you think of yourself, the day you became a child of His , you became flawless in God’s eyes. He doesn’t see any imperfections. You are His perfect child. He would never throw you away because you are sick, not talented enough, or you came around at a bad time in His life. He WANTS you. He LOVES you. No matter what. We, as people, are to have unconditional love for everyone. No matter how old or young. No matter how big or small. Rich or poor. Healthy or sick. Weak or strong. Our love for each other should have on limits. No criteria. We are failing as a society. We have turned our backs on the helpless. I realize that this song is not talking about abortion. But it is talking about unconditional love and through abortion, we are seeing the opposite. Abortion is conditional love. God has no part in that type of love. Although things seem bleak now, we cannot give up. Even when mankind makes evil decisions on the principle of being so called “progressive”, God is still in control. Please pray for our lawmakers that they will see the error of their ways and correct what has been a grave mistake since 1973. God Bless.
