Sounds of the Season 2
Back in 2018 I submitted a post where I recommended some of my family’s favorite Christmas albums. In case you were wondering, that list is still very valid as those albums continue to rank very high for us. Today I want to focus on a particular song. The song is by Casting Crowns featuring Matt Maher and is titled “Make Room”. It was written by Mark Hall and Matt Maher. I have included the lyrics below:
Verse 1]
Family hiding from the storm
Found no place at the keeper’s door
It was for this a Child was born
To save a world so cold and hollow
[Verse 2]
The sleeping town did not know
That lying in a manger low
A Savior King who had no home
Has come to heal our sorrows [Chorus]
Is there room in your heart?
Is there room in your heart?
Is there room in your heart
For God to write His story?
[Verse 3]
Shepherds counting sheep in the night
Do not fear the glory light
You are precious in His sight
God has come to raise the lowly
[Chorus]
Is there room in your heart?
Is there room in your heart?
Is there room in your heart
For God to write His story?
You can come as you are
But it may set you apart
When you make room in your heart
And trade your dreams for His glory
Make room in your heart
Make room in your heart
[Verse 4]
Mother holds the Promise tight
Every wrong will be made right
The road is straight and the burden’s light
For in His hands He holds tomorrow
[Chorus]
Is there room in your heart?
Is there room in your heart?
Is there room in your heart
For God to write His story?
You can come as you are
But it may set you apart
When you make room in your heart
And trade your dreams for His glory
Make room in your heart
Make room in your heart
Make room in your heart
Make room in your heart
[Instrumental]
This song has become one of my wife’s favorites as also mine. For me, the lyrics really hit home because I see in the birth of Jesus, a snapshot of His life on earth. He was rejected and ignored.
Jesus and His parents were turned away and rejected by the inn keeper. “I have no room for you”. “Go away”. “You are not worth my time”. “You provide me nothing in the here and now”. “By giving you attention, I am robbing attention and profit from myself”.
We say the same type of things everyday of our lives. We reject Him. We ignore Him. We have no time for Him. We have no room for Him.
As He grows up on earth, it gets no better for the King of Kings. He has no place to lay his head at night. He is rejected by his own kinsmen and kicked out of His own hometown. He is rejected as the Messiah. To the point of being beaten, ridiculed, and murdered. But like Verse 1 in the song says, “It was for this a Child was born; To save a world so cold and hollow”.
I know this time of year is very busy for everyone. The secular world has made it that way in the name of love, family, or whatever excuse we can make. Just remember the source of this season. Who started it and why. If you don’t know the One who started it, I invite you to do so. If you go to the front page of this blog site you will see a link where can meet this One. Please don’t wait. Don’t hesitate. Make room in your heart today for Him.
